On 17 January 2011, Ambassador of Ukraine to Libya Mr Mykola Nahornyi met with Mr Ibrahim Ali Rabu, Secretary of Conferences, International Organizations and Relief of the World Islamic Call Society.

The current state of relations between the World Islamic Call Society and Ukrainian religious organizations both in Ukraine and Libya as well as prospects of its development were discussed during the meeting.

In this context the Ambassador of Ukraine introduced to Mr Ibrahim Rabu Father Zachary Kerstiuk, the Archpriest of Ukrainian Orthodox Church who is in Tripoli on a pastoral visit in order to perform church services for Ukrainian citizens and Orthodox Christians from other nations on the occasion of Christmas and Epiphany holidays.

The head of Ukrainian diplomatic mission thanked the representative of the Libyan religious organization for Islamic Call’s support for services provided by St. Andrew’s Orthodox Church that functions in the territory of the Embassy of Ukraine in Libya.

The World Islamic Call Society is a Libyan NGO that funds and implements projects for construction of mosques and Muslim schools as well as of centres of Muslim culture both in Libya and abroad. It also promotes development of cooperation between Islamic organizations and Christian and other confessions. The Society is one of the active parties in international dialogue of faiths and cooperates closely with the Council of World Churches in Geneva.
