Ukraine considers Libya one of the most promising and reliable partners on the African continent. Relations between our states have a rich and long history. Despite a number of challenges facing our peoples in recent years, Kyiv and Tripoli are demonstrating a gradual increase in the pace of trade and economic cooperation. In terms of exports, Libya is traditionally one of the five largest trade partners of Ukraine on the African continent. In particular, in 2020 the trade turnover amounted to 369.8 million US dollars with the Ukrainian exports amounted to 327.8 million dollars. In recent years, exports to Libya of Ukrainian meat and certain food products, including confectionery, dairy products and juices, have increased several times. Traditionally, exports of Ukrainian wheat remain high.
The trade and economic vector of bilateral cooperation will take on a new dimension after the final stabilization of the security situation in Libya. Ukraine is interested in participating in the implementation of infrastructure reconstruction projects in the country, which has suffered significant damage as a result of the protracted conflict. These include industries such as metallurgy, electricity, transport infrastructure, and agriculture.
It should be noted that Ukraine is a guarantor of food security in many countries around the world due to traditionally strong food exports. According to the results of the 2019-2020 marketing year, Ukraine ranked 1st in the world in the export of sunflower oil, 2nd - in the export of barley, entered the top four largest exporters of corn and five largest exporters of wheat.
