On October 12, 2010 the Ambassador of Ukraine to Libya Mr. Mykola Nahornyi met with the Secretary of Foreign Affairs at the General People’s Congress of Libya (Deputy Speaker of Parliament) Mr. Suleiman Al Shahoumi.

During the meeting the current state and prospects of joint cooperation in the spheres of mutual interest were under discussion. The Libyan party was briefed in detail about political situation in Ukraine.

The Secretary of Foreign Affairs at the GPC emphasized that the relations between Ukraine and Libya are on the high rise nowadays and attached significance to maintaining regular political dialogue between high-level officials of Ukraine and Libya in future, in particular between Verkhovna Rada and General People’s Congress.

The parties also discussed the issue of organizing visits of legislative bodies’ delegations of Ukraine and Libyan Arab Jamahiriya. The Libyan party confirmed its interest in developing cooperation with Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Group on Inter-Parliamentary Liaison with GSPLAJ.

A special attention was paid to humanitarian cooperation, as well as to the issue of Ukrainian medical staff working in Libya.
